Repeat Prescriptions

We have recently reviewed our prescription process to make changes that will enable us to provide a more efficient service to you and one which will cope with the current demands of General Practice.

If you are on regular medication please be aware we are phasing out paper prescriptions and changing to electronic. This will be easier for you and reduce our use of paper.

If you are on regular medication and have a favoured pharmacy all you have to do is NOMINATE Wychall Lane when you speak to them and ask them to set up an electronic link between themselves and the surgery. In the interim and if you are on regular medication then, as usual, the right-hand side of your prescription will serve as your repeat prescription form.

Once on EPS you can then order your repeat medication in one of 3 ways:

  • You can continue to order in the usual way by either posting your repeat to us, or place it in the repeat prescriptions box in the practice entrance lobby
  • You can order directly from the pharmacy
  • You can also order repeat medication online. You will need to register for this service at the practice.

Whichever method you choose, your prescription will be ready for collection after 5.00pm, two days after your order. Please speak to a receptionist for further information.

Urgent Prescription Requests

It is your responsibility, or your carer’s responsibility to order medication in a timely manner.

For safety reasons, we cannot accept ‘urgent’ prescription requests unless the circumstances are exceptional.

Responding to urgent repeat prescription requests is taking up the duty doctor’s time and affecting their ability to provide telephone assistance or face to face consultations for acutely unwell patients. Prescribing errors are more likely to occur when the proper processes of repeat prescription issuing are not followed.

Exceptions may be made where missing medication is likely to cause significant harm, such as medicine for cancer, epilepsy, diabetes and psychosis. Responding to other urgent repeat medication requests will only be at the duty doctor’s discretion.

Prescription Queries

Please direct queries about medication issues to our Prescription Clerk between 11.00am and 1.00pm. If our Prescription Clerk is unable to answer your query it will be passed to the Duty Doctor. We aim to provide an answer to medication queries within 2-3 working days. Please note that generating a prescription from a written request from a hospital Clinician will usually also take two working days.

If you are on regular medication then the right-hand side of your prescription will serve as your repeat prescription form. You should complete the form as required and either post it to us or place it in the repeat prescriptions box in the practice entrance lobby.

You can also order repeat medication online and you will need to register for this service at the practice. Please speak to a receptionist for further information. Whichever method you choose, your prescription will be ready for collection, after 5.00pm, 48 hours after your order.

N.B: Telephone requests for repeat prescriptions cannot be accepted unless you are housebound.

Medication Review

Once a year you will need to see a doctor to review the medication you have on repeat prescription. This review date is printed on each prescription for your information.

Online Services

You can now book appointments and order repeat prescriptions online.

To register to use this service please speak to a receptionist.
